As SPICE Mobile announce their mHealth plans the Mobile Indian identifies the current disconnect

Reporting on SPICE’s plans to launch “Jeeyo Healthy” mHealth services such as 24×7 on call “Medical Experts“, the Mobile Indian identifies a major barrier to mHealth adoption:

As of now, there are a lot of mobile apps available in the Indian market, which provide this information but the problem is that they don’t allow users to connect with doctors. The need of the hour is to have health care wherein mobiles make it easier for patients to connect with doctors. Let’s hope Jeeyo Healthy is able to address this issue in a satisfactory manner

Whilst I understand the utmost importance of patient privacy I’m not so sure who thought it was a good idea for a mHealth service to be designed in such a way that patients will find comfort by not feeling the “need to reveal their identity” as in my opinion the identity of both Doctor and Patient are a prerequisite for a trusted Doctor/Patient relationship.

The announcement of this mHealth initiative by Spice follows efforts by other mobile operators in India including Aircel, Airtel, Tata, Uninor and Vodafone Essar. Click here for a full list and links to Mobile Operator mHealth initiatives.
