Is your Hospital still stocking a paper based Library?

Apple Insider reports that American Airlines Plots have now replaced paper terminal charts with an Apple iPad in all cockpits. Annual savings in fuel reduction alone (less weight to carry) are expected to be in the region of $1 Million.

In Healthcare where the benefits are obviously much more significant (in addition to cost savings mobile access can also save lives, improve outcomes, make care safer, etc) we’re seeing much slower adoption of such obvious consumer technologies eg. at Boston Children’s Hospital they still maintain a 5,000 Sq Ft library that stocks “video tapes”, printed copes of “up to date” medical reference books, and remain closed to patients/families most of the time all weekends and during major holidays, etc.
