The Mobile Healthcare Industry Summit Middle East took place in Dubai last week and brought to an end a great year for mHealth conferences (I counted 35 in total!). Being organised by Informa Telecoms & Media and co-located with the regions largest Telco event (the Middle East Telco World Summit) ensured it attracted some very senior additional participants which was very exciting as in the Middle East mHealth is of wide interest to the mobile industry as it isn’t able to generate revenues from several of the categories of mobile value added services that generate such vast profits in other regions (eg. mGambling, Adult Content and Community services).
To my mind this gives an important extra momentum to the regions mobile industry to bring mHealth offerings to market and underpins some of the success stories I learnt about during my trip. I have no doubt this extra commercial pressure will encourage this region to continue to lead in mHealth adoption. As a result of our trip we generated several offers for partnering and investment so we’re optimisitic that we’ll manage to be one of the participants in this region too.
