We’ve been more than impressed by the basic Nokia Wellness product (demonstrated above by Jaakko Olkkonen, Director of the recently renamed “Health and Wellness Program” at Nokia) but it still doesn’t seem to be getting the attention it deserves, particularly if you’ve been following the “hype” (or otherwise) that’s been kicked off at CES by independent manufacturers showcasing medical peripherals for the iPhone capable of remotely recording and sharing vitals such as Blood Pressure, Weight, ECG etc.
So it’s great to learn that Nokia’s at last started using the word “Health” and began beefing up it’s team with the appointment of a new senior manager Ilkka Korhonen, former Chief Research Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre (the biggest multitechnological applied research organisation in Northern Europe).
“Ilkka Korhonen, PhD, has more than 20 years of experience in research and development and business in healthcare engineering and especially in health IT. He is currently a Senior Manager in Wellness Business Program at Nokia Corporate Development, with main responsibility in Product Management. Before joining Nokia, he has been working with Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) holding various positions from Research Manager to Research Professor. He is Adjunct Professor in Biomedical Informatics in Tampere University of Technology, Finland an IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology (IEEE EMBS). Administrative Committee member (elected, European representative). His research interests include personal health systems, biosignal processing, and eHealth/mHealth, among others.
