mHealth Guide to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas

Dr Bickford at CES2016

The Consumer Electronics Show (#CES2016) in Las Vegas is the world’s biggest tech event and my superstar medic colleague Dr Chris Bickford MD will be there reporting on the mHealth developments for mHealth Insight readers.

This year there are some really interesting mHealth innovations being launched but as with Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (the equivalent event to CES here in Europe – see my guides from 201420132012 and reviews from 2008200920102011 & 2014) it’s not easy to find it all as there is over 2 Million ft2 of exhibition floor and very different tracks that will focus and touch upon the topic.

Click here to register to attend and use the #mHealth and #CES2016 hashtags on Twitter. If you know of anything we’ve missed and should add or would like to tell us about anything we must check out please comment below and I’ll update the guide and where possible try and arrange some times for you to meet up with Dr Bickford who will be paying a flying visit inbetween his clinics this week.

Note: Due to security concerns new bag restrictions are in place for CES2016

mHealth Conference Content

Most of the mHealth content can be found in the Digital Health Summit (click here to view/download the dedicated program as this has lots of other useful info)  but I’ve picked some other relevant tracks and added them here so you’ve got a single page that’ll ensure you don’t miss anything that might be interesting:

Venetian (Floor 31 Suite 235) L’Oreal (NJ, USA)

L’Oreal Group’s leading dermatological skincare brand, La Roche-Posay, together with MC10 and PCH, unveiled My UV Patch, the first-ever stretchable skin sensor designed to monitor UV exposure and help consumers educate themselves about sun protection. The patch is a transparent adhesive that, unlike the rigid wearables currently on the market, stretches and adheres directly to any area of skin that consumers want to monitor. Measuring approximately one square inch in area and 50 micrometers thick – half the thickness of an average strand of hair – the patch contains photosensitive dyes that factor in the baseline skin tone and change colors when exposed to UV rays to indicate varying levels of sun exposure.

Consumers will be able to take a photo of the patch and upload it to the La Roche-Posay My UV Patch mobile app, which analyzes the varying photosensitive dye squares to determine the amount of UV exposure the wearer has received. The My UV Patch mobile app will be available on both iOS and Android, incorporating Near Field Communications (NFC)-enabled technology into the patch-scanning process for Android. My UV Patch is expected to be made available to consumers later this year.
